Wyss Yim
HKU retired Professor

Fung Sir first taught me at the Diocesan Boys’ School in1962. After leaving DBS and studying in the UK, I was appointed a lecturer in the Department of Geography and Geology, The University of Hong Kong in 1974. This was the Department where Fung Sir graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I also  became a colleague with Fung Sir at HKU in the Faculty of Arts. On and off I have kept in touch with Fung Sir including through DBS Class 1964 functions. Our last meeting was a visit to Fung Sir’s North Point home in 2025.

Thank you.

Though Yee Wang was a well-regarded senior schoolmate in the Class of '55, two years ahead of me in '57, I never had the opportunity of knowing him at school.  That opportunity came in 2003/4, when we worked together with two other old boys on the tribute book in memory of our beloved headmaster, the Rev. George She.  As the elder colleague on the editorial committee, he ably took on the role of advising and mediating between the sometimes conflicting views of us younger members.  At the completion of the final proof, he also arranged for the book to be  printed to a high standard in Hong Kong.  The George She tribute book was the first project of its kind at DBS and Yee Wang played a key part in liaising with Headmaster Terence Chang and the school board to recognize its historic significance by holding a memorial service in the school chapel which dozens of alumni and family members attended. That project and the service in the chapel have encapsulated in my mind how deeply devoted Yee Wang was to our beloved Alma Mater for his entire life.  It has been a privilege and a pleasure to have known him ever since then.  The attached photo shows: HM Chang holding a copy of the book, myself and Yee Wang at the service.

With my deepest respect and condolences,

Bruce Chan, Class of 1957.
